How does it work?
Infrared heating can be a difficult concept to grasp at first—especially since most of us were raised with traditional convection heating, which warms the air. But heating the air is an uphill battle: it’s inefficient and wasteful.
Infrared heating works differently. Instead of heating the air, it gently warms the solid objects in the room such as the floor, walls, furniture, and people. These objects then slowly release the stored warmth back into the space, creating a more consistent and comfortable environment.
Balancing Temperatures from Floor to Ceiling
With conventional heating, the temperature difference between the ceiling and floor can be dramatic, for example 30°C near the ceiling and only 15°C at your feet. To address this, systems often try to circulate the air, but basic physics ensures hot air rises, leaving you feeling cold where it matters most.
Infrared heaters solve this by storing heat in objects, not in the air. That means when a door or window opens, the warmth doesn’t escape immediately because it’s held in the room itself, not floating away in the air.
What actually happens?
Let’s take a simple example: imagine a south-facing conservatory on a sunny day. As the sun shines in, its infrared rays penetrate the space and warm the walls, floors, furniture. By evening, even after the sun has set, the room remains warm because those materials continue to release the heat they absorbed.
This is exactly how infrared heating works. It creates a gentle, lasting warmth and a natural sense of comfort all around you.
